Plenty of art to see at the 2018 Jersey Summer Exhibition at CCA Galleries

Plenty of art to see at the 2018 Jersey Summer Exhibition at CCA Galleries

Published: 23 May 2018

As part of the Jersey Summer Exhibition 2018 CCA Galleries International is pleased to partner with ArtHouse Jersey and the Skipton Open Studios in making it a great summer for visual art in Jersey.

CCA Galleries International launched Jersey’s first ever Summer Exhibition last year. There were over 1,000 visitors to the exhibition and two thirds of the work was sold. The work, including ceramics, prints, paintings and sculpture, sold to collectors within Jersey as well as Scotland, Ireland and the UK. The exhibition is based on the successful model at the Royal Academy – exhibits are selected by a panel of professional artists and critics and shown in a group selling exhibition. As well as exhibiting at a prestigious, international gallery, being selected for CCAI Summer Exhibition is expected to help launch the careers of promising Jersey artists, as well as enforcing that of those already established.

There were nearly 250 submissions for the Summer Exhibition this January. After an initial shortlist, the final selection was made by Gallery Director Sasha Gibb, Managing Director Gillian Duke and International artist and RA Professor, Danny Rolph. The artist shortlist is on the gallery website.

We're delighted that the following Skipton Open Studios artists have also been selected to show as part of the 2018 Summer Exhibition. You can check out their individual pages for details of their work and their Open Studios!

The summer exhibition has developed through a growing appetite for high quality, curated visual art in Jersey. Artists such as Heath Hearn, Katy Brown and Jason Butler will be showing alongside other established and emerging Jersey artists. This year the exhibition launches it’s ‘Summer Prize’ for the artist that the judges agree exhibited the most accomplished piece of work. The winner will be offered a solo show at CCA Galleries International.

CCAI have always been eager to support students and will be working with the Young Arts, Jersey and Arts Society, Jersey to enable 12 art students from year 11,12 and 13 to take part in the exhibition. They are also glad to be working with exhibition sponsors TEAM for the second year of this annual event. Throughout the exhibition, there is a program of talks, discussions and artist crits. One of the highlights will be ‘a conversation on contemporary art in relation to the show’ by Danny Rolph, Royal Academy Professor, 11.00 - 12.00, Saturday 7 June. Danny had a great exhibition at the gallery at Christmas and is currently working on a new body of work based on 12 Jerriais phrases to bring back to the gallery next spring.

Gallery Director, Sasha Gibb says ‘I’m really looking forward to working with local artists again and taking their work to a new audience. 10 Hill Street is a fantastic gallery for contemporary art and I’d like to see it full of the best art we can find.’

Ben Shenton, Managing Director at TEAM Asset Management ‘We are delighted to once again sponsor the Jersey Summer Exhibition. It serves to demonstrate the immense and diverse talent within this small island.’
