If you've ever been to any of the island's Genuine Jersey events, or past Skipton Open Studios, you will probably be familiar with the local silver jewellery that is beautifully hand-crafted by the expert Artist Lisa Le Brocq. We chatted to Lisa about her upcoming Open Studios, and asked her a few quick fire questions to find out a little bit more about her interesting life as a creator of intricate silver jewellery pieces....
"How would I describe myself as an Artist?
It's like making teeny-tiny metal sculptures that people can wear!!
Have you taken part in Skipton Open Studios before?
Yes, I have taken part in Open Studios for the past 5 years.
How did I first get into Art? I've always dabbled with this and that as a youngster and it's a family thing as my brother is also an Artist. I used to visit him while he was at Art College and thought I'd give it a go too....... I started studying in 1993, and finally graduated with a BA in Applied Arts in 2000.
Who is my creative inspiration?
I keep an eye on current trends and have some favourite Artists and Designers that I aspire to, but it is mostly Wildlife and Natural things that I find out and about on our beaches and countryside that give me the most inspiration.......
Why should we visit your Open Studio?
I will be showing some of my Bespoke pieces at the Elms in St Mary alongside the work of a very talented group of Artists, including, Nanette Regan (Illustration), Beverley Speck (Textiles), Jodie Spriggs (Glass) and Phil Regan (Illustration). Visitors will be able to take a wander around the grounds and gardens at the Elms, as well as viewing some fantastic Artworks designed specifically for the Open Studios event.
Also, I will be demonstrating to our visitors some of my favourite Jewellery Making techniques at my 'Pop-Up Jewelers Bench' that I will be setting up at the Elms that weekend.
What have you been doing so far in preparation for this year’s Open Studios?
So far I have designed and made some special pieces for the Open Studios event. Each year I try to design a new set of pieces inspired by Jersey landmarks and natural environment, so I will also be launching some of the new pieces in my collection. I use the event to challenge myself creatively, I love working to deadlines and have set myself a few challenges of pieces to complete. The collection includes some very long and detailed silver necklaces.
What can we expect from you from this year’s Open Studios?
Visitors to the Elms will see a mixture of some beautiful Necklaces displayed on special Busts and Mannequins as well as an introduction to my new collection of Landmark pieces.
Describe Jersey's creative scene.....
The Creative Scene is growing tremendously!!!"
