Robert Allen is a plein air painter based in St Clement. He has used his immediate landscape as inspiration for his work since studying in Cornwall and Milan between 2002 and 2006. His primary mediums are painting and drawing and predominantly plein air from the beaches of Jersey.
Robert creates landscapes that have an urgency and energy that comes from working directly in the landscape. He takes a lot of influence from artists such as Van Gogh and Peter Lanyon whose artwork has an immediacy that describes not just the physical aspects of a place but the sensation of being there.
To stand in a landscape and paint what you see before as clouds and shadows constantly change is a true challenge. This is what makes plein air so exciting. Robert Allen has two such paintings in this show. Both pictures …show an artist working with authenticity and passion. Robert will be exhibiting a new body of work at Le Hocq Tower that will include large and small scale paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and preparatory work. Most of the artworks will be for sale. The tower was chosen as a place to exhibit as it is an iconic and significant site for the parish of St Clement. It is situated in the heart of where Robert produces his work.
There is free parking across the road from the tower.
There is Le Hocq Inn for a drink. And a beach to lie down on below the
